Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
